Met with Susan at
Cushing Manor Inn concerning their bay windows (Italianate). Wayne and I met with
NNN (Karen Ainsley) and Memorial Hospital (Ted Foti and Kreg Gruber) and Chuck
Leone. Learned that all of the demolition south of Memorials' Campus will be devoted to
surface parking for the foreseeable future; requested that concerns had been expressed to
HPC that all this surface parking makes South Bend look less like a City and that these
sites be landscaped. The Children's Hospital will be on the South side of Bartlett Street.
The current building projects are all on time and on budget. There was a parking study by
DLZ which determined that a 500 space parking garage near the Civic Theatre would cost
$17000.00 per space and even with 50/50 with the City it was too costly. CT's is still an
obstacle. Chuck Leone said that South Bend can do a receivership program by issuing
First Lien bonds to fund the fix -up projects. Ted mentioned that there may be changes
with La Petite Day Care as the quality of die programs has declined. He also was
interested in a census of the surrounding neighborhoods of owner occupied versus rentals;
vacancies and code violations.
,January 10 Prepared 710 Park Avenue synopsis.
