pUTe `OM,MISS10 J
p5HRte, HISTORIC PRESERVATIONCOMMISSION ,z.' o=.
PRESIDENT'S-REPORT41/28/08-
,
1865
2008 Recap
January Windows Workshop
o January 26th, 2008
o Hosted By Eric Goss of South Bend.
o Presentation by Wayne Doolittle on the rehabilitation of existing wood windows
and storms. I assisted. .
o Well -attended — expected enrollment was exceeded. Enthusiastic participants
are eager for more, more, more!
o My thanks to Wayne Doolittle for his presentation and management of the event
and to Eric Goss for graciously hosting the workshop in his home. And to Steve
and Jeff Schoberg for demonstrating their tried and true restoration techniques.
RestoreMichiana
o March $th, 2008.
o I'll ask for a brief progress report from staff under New Business
2008 Goals
The Preservation Plan.
o Investigate funding options that will permit a professional and legal evaluation of
that document.
o Begin to transform the guide into a more useful strategic plan. .
Re-establish active LHD Liaison Committees and re -connect with our districts.
o I propose that we charge the Historic Districts Committee:
• To revisit our current list of active liaisons.
• To solicit new individuals for this service by developing a progressive
and measurable outreach action.
• Require that active liaisons meet to discuss and prepare state -of -the -
district reports about their respective communities and environment.
• The Historic District Committee should evaluate and summarize
this information and make recommendations to this board.
• 1 would like to have completed status reports no later than July 1 st
Advisory Board
o Much discussion has transpired over the use and purpose of this still untapped
resource. The by-laws only state that the "Advisory Board is to assist [the HPC]
in fulfilling its mission and effectiveness in the community."
o As budget cuts are perhaps our greatest obstacles in satisfying local preservation
needs while limiting our operating efficiency, I recommend that we task the
Advisory Board to find creative solutions intended to reduce the impact of these
budgetary constraints. This includes but is not limited to:
• Marketing concepts
• Assistance in the sale and distribution of County and City Survey
Booklets
Commissioner Requirements
o CLG requirements must be met.
• Commissioners are required to attend seminars, workshops and other
events each year. We all need to share in the effort.
Becoming a Preserve America Community
O Amy Herdman will update us with her presentation under New Business. I ask
for your careful attention to this important initiative.
