the property, but offer a contemporary method and material that should be acceptable
based on HPC guidelines. I'd be happy to answer any questions.
Klusczinski: Very good. Can you site for me the similarities that the NNW has been able
to evaluate between the property that failed and it's paint and the current property so
that we know that we're comparing apples to apples.
Maradik: As far as just the....
Klusczinski: How would you be able to anticipate that the paint would fail on this one,
and have you determined or given any assignable cause why the paint failed on the other
property?
Maradik: They don't know why that paint failed; they did follow the Historic
Landmarks...
Klusczinski: So there has not been an evaluation?
Maradik: Yeah. They followed the same standards and the contractors did the standards
of Historic Landmark when they completed the job and I would be of the assumption that
it would be to the same standard at this property.
Klusczinski: Do you have a date, or can you approximate a date when the other property
was finished?
Maradik: It was in 2045, my guess is over the summer, but I don't have an exact...
Klusczinski: If you would be leaving, I guess the jamb treatment and trim in place, and
cladding the entire house again how would you handle the different layer elevation of the
new siding atop, for the more decorative elements of the house that we're trying to
preserve for our interests.
Maradik: Since it already has aluminum siding on it, there's a good chance, I'm
assuming, some of the pieces or elements that you might be talking about aren't existing
any longer underneath if they were removed when the siding was placed on it.
Klusczinski: No, Iguess the basis for my question was trying to determine how we would
re-emphasize the feature aspect of the window components and everything. 1 know that
for aluminum siding there are different ways that that's handled. With vinyl siding you
have a j -channel and everything like that, but if you're going to celebrate those features
once again to be, I guess, in sympathy, with the other standards of the district, how would
you be able to bring those elements out without creating a lot more additional work also?
Maradik: If I'm understanding your question right, I know that in other houses the NNW
at least, as far as colors that they choose helps to accentuate things like windows and
doorjambs and whatnot.
Klusczinski: So, only by color and not by building members and trim?
Maradik: They would probably still use something similar to, maybe the cement board
or something along those lines if it needed to accentuate...
Klusczinski: Do you have any houses as an example where that's been done, or is this
going to be a guinea pig case?
Maradik: I'm sure that whatever they're redoing at this house would be something
similar to houses that they've already completed.
Hostetler: Tim, in 2005 at this particular residence, we had a C of A approved to retain
2 originals for re -use, replacement of replacement windows with Kolbe and Kolbe 1 over
I double hung windows, porch rehabilitation, removal of concrete porch floor and metal
supports and railings and replacement with wood tongue and groove flooring, bead
board ceiling, columns and spindles per photos submitted, details of porch and rear
elevation will be worked out with HPC staff. Removal of second front door, in-kind
replacement of roof, gutters and side walks, and then they were going to repaint and so
they haven't done this work yet so we extended them the C of A for everything but the
painting, and that's why she's here.
Zeiger: So all of that other work is going to go on?
Hostetler: Yes, all of that other work is going to be going on, they're going to be
replacing the replacement windows with the Kolbe and Kolbe windows which will not
pose a problem, I don't think.
R
