STAFF REPORT <br />CONCERNING APPLICATION FOR A <br />CERTIFICATE OF APPROPRIATENESS <br />Date: September 7, 2007 <br />Application Number: COA #2007-0906 <br />Property Location: 1715 E. Wayne Street <br />Property Owner: Linda and John Brady <br />Landmark or District Designation: East Wayne Street LHD <br />Rating: Contributing <br />STATEMENT OF SIGNIFICANCE/HISTORIC CONTEXT: Whitcomb and Keller built this H.R. <br />Stapp designed Tudor Revival house in 1929. John T. and Jean Voedisch were the first owners. Mr. <br />Voedisch was an assistant football coach for Notre Dame under Knute Rockne. <br />APPLICATION ITEMS: Gerard Homes Inc. is proposing to add a 16'x13'-6" screen porch to the rear <br />of the home. They will be pouring footings and a concrete slab. Building materials will be all cedar; <br />black aluminum screen will then be added with cedar trim. Roof will be Y2" OSB plywood with <br />architectural shingles, aluminum fascia and soffit to match existing roof. The Exterior siding will be <br />1"x8" horizontal cedar. Interior will have 3' knee walls on three sides with an 8'x8'-6' French door <br />leading into existing additions. Interior walls and ceiling will have 1"x8" horizontal T&G cedar. Exterior <br />siding will be painted first with a primer and then brown to match existing house color. All landscaping, <br />sidewalks, fences will be restored to their original appearance. <br />EAST WAYNE STREET STANDARDS: III. New Construction: A. Height and Proportion: <br />Required:... Additions to existing building shall be related in height and proportion to the existing <br />structure. B. Building Materials: Required: Exterior materials used on a new structure shall be <br />compatible in scale, texture and color with adjacent structures. Materials used on an addition to an <br />existing structure shall relate to the existing or original materials of that structure. As much of the <br />original structure as possible shall be retained so that the addition could be removed withdut damage to <br />the basic structure and appearance of the building. <br />RECOMMENDATION: Staff recommends approval. The porch will be in scale and proportion to the <br />rest of the house and will match the materials of the house. - It will be in the rear of the home and attached <br />to a non original addition to the house and will not obscure any original features. <br />
