RECOMMENDATION: Staff recommends approval. The porch will be in scale and proportion to the
rest of the house and will match the materials of the house. It will be in the rear of the home and attached
to a non original addition to the house and will not obscure any original features.
Klusczinski: Thank you Catherine, are the petitioners here? Would you like to make a
presentation please, and we ask that you situate yourself near one of the mics. It's entirely
optional, but...
Brady: Ok, I didn't really have much planned to say.
Klusczinski: Just please state your name and address for the record please.
Brady: John Brady, 1715 E. Wayne Street. I grew up a few doors down at 1615 E. Wayne, and
we had a screened porch there when I was growing up. So, one of the things that we wanted to
do there when we moved into the home in 1990 was to add the screened in porch. It seems that
our children took all our money, but the mosquitoes finally have driven us to do this. I sell
houses in the neighborhood so I'm very into the historic appeal of the neighborhood myself, so I
think that we'll do a good job on it and hope that you'll approve it.
Klusczinski: Thank you. Before you leave, are there any Commissioners with questions for
either the staff or petitioner?
Sporleder: Yes. Could you show with these pictures where this screened in porch is going. I
don't quitefollow what is...
Brady: It is kind of hard to tell here, you know this picture might be abetter choice. It'll come,
this is the addition that someone built before we moved in, and it will come from this direction
like this, right in this area here.
Sporleder: Is this the front of the house, is that correct?
Brady: Yes.
Sporleder: Ok, that's front and this is what? Back?
Brady: This may show you a little bit better.
Sporleder: Ok, so the screed in porch is going to go where?
Brady: The screened in porch is going to start right where the existing roof line is and come out
to here.
Sporleder: So the roof line is going to be... it's going to cover this roof?
Brady: Yes, that's correct, with the same shingles.
Sporleder: And that will come out to where?
Brady: Just slightly past this right here.
Sporleder: Just past this area?
Brady: Correct. And it will be the same....
Sporleder: One slopped roof.
Brady: That's correct, a shed roof.
Sporleder: That wasn't very clear in what was printed.
Klusczinski: Joann, for the benefit of the rest of us on this end of the table could you illustrate
that on this diagram?
Brady: It's going to follow this line right here, and come down like that.
Sporleder: It's nothing to follow this. Actually, but the color matches a little better. He's
intending to start the roof right under the window and come all the way out to...
Brady: It's about 16 ft, or about 4 ft past...
Sporleder: So that he has the head room on this end.
Brady: It will be a cathedral roof inside.
Sporleder: But the outside roof is a shed roof Flashing tied into the roof with copper.
Uj dak: What are you going to do in the wintertime? I had a situation like that and we put in
storm windows and it was great.
Klusczinski: Any_ other_questions for the petitioner before-we moveforward?
Sporleder: Thank you very much.
Klusczinski: Chair recognizes Commissioners for discussion before we move to public hearing.
Any discussion? Hearing none, we move to public hearing. Is there anyone in the public wishing
to speak in support of the current petition, you may do so. Hearing none, anyone wishing to
2
