PUBLIC HEARING
Application Number: 2007-0912A
Property Location: 1212 E. Jefferson
Property Owner: Terri and John Califano
Landmark or District Designation: E. Wayne Street LHD
Rating: Non Contributing
STATEMENT OF SIGNIFICANCE/HISTORIC CONTEXT: This split level ranch was built between
1958 and 1960 by Hazel and Merle Rusk. Mr. Rusk was a salesman with Ben Fefferman.
APPLICATION ITEMS: 9'x18' wood deck at rear of house per attached site plan.
EAST WAYNE STREET STANDARDS: I The Environment, B. Building site, Landscaping and
Accessories. Required: major landscaping items, fencing, walkways, private yard lights, signs (house
numbers) and benches which reflect the property's history and development shall be retained. Dominant land
contours shall be retained. Structures such as gazebos, patio decks, fixed barbecue pits, swimming pools,
tennis courts, greenhouses, new walls, fountains, fixed garden furniture, trellises and other similar structures
shall be compatible to the historic. character of the site and the neighborhood and inconspicuous when viewed
from a public walkway.
RECOMMENDATION: Staff recommends approval as the deck will not be visible from the street and will
be compatible with the house.
Klusczinksi: For the record, if you could please state your name and address.
J Califano: John Califano, 1212 E Jefferson.
T Califano: Terri Califano.
Klusczinski: Would you care to make a presentation on C ofA 2007-0912A?
T Califano: Do we need to say anything?
Patrick: Sometimes people want to say something.
J Califano: It's pretty basic, we need some functionality. There is a large step that drops off the
back so we need to build it up and the deck provides the function of an easy walkway and to step
out of the house.
Klusczinski: Ok.
T Califano: And it goes with #2, to get down to the pool.
Chase: I see it's treated oak (?). - --
Klusczinski: Very good Anything else? Any Commissioners with comments?
Chase: I see that it's treated wood, is it going to be painted or stained?
T Califano: Probably stained.
Klusczinski: Are there any other decks, just to get a sense of the neighborhood, that you're
aware of in the environment.
