Those related to my <br />concerns, prompted the Assistant Superintendent to comment about the details of that evening's <br />power point presentation. In particular, she noted that the classrooms in the video were located in <br />Fort Wayne that Fort Wayne utilized an old building and that Montessori program was <br />successfully implemented in those surroundings. At a separate time, Pat also admitted that <br />contingent upon the [$12 Million] grant; the Corporation (meaning SBCSC) would be able to <br />institute the Marquette Montessori Magnet in a new building or an old one. <br />March 14, 2007 <br />Met with Dan Driscoll - Head of School, Good Shepherd Montessori in South Bend. Catherine <br />Hostetler and Linda Riley accompanied me. Dan was kind enough to host detailed tour of their <br />facility and later to allow us to participate in a discussion with his architect. <br />2. Landmarks Committee — Chair, Linda Riley <br />Chairwoman Riley presented the Committee's recommendation to landmark Marquette School. <br />Counsel reminded Committee and all present of the requirements of due notice etc., per Indiana <br />Code. Commissioner Ujdak reports that he's spoken to the grant writer for SBCSC and that it <br />isn't looking good for the grant that was possibly threatening Marquette. The significant <br />matching requirement had been overlooked. <br />3. Southhold Awards Breakfast — Catherine Hostetler <br />The menu has been set. Invitations should go out by the end of the month. (March). <br />Commissioners will be needed to assist with registration on the morning of the event. A search <br />for the guest speaker continues. <br />IV. OLD BUSINESS <br />President Klusczinski asked if the problem with email had been resolved. Staff noted that <br />although the problem has been examined by the Data Board, and that HPC computers were now <br />"wide open" that the email problems continued. <br />Secretary Zeiger reported that the Birdsell House on W Colfax has been sold. The buyer is from <br />Chicago and is very preservation minded. <br />V. NEW BUSINESS <br />Landmarks Committee Chairwoman Riley initiated the Land Marking Procedure for Marquette <br />School. She went on to review significant details about the structure including: the school was <br />designed and built by prominent South Bend architects Austin and Shambleau. The school was <br />built by the PWA during the Roosevelt administration and remains essentially unaltered and very <br />sound. Counsel clarified the process for conducting public hearings on the matter, and reminded <br />the Commission that the owners of the site must be duly notified. <br />Moved: Riley <br />To initiate land marking <br />process for Marquette School <br />Second: Chase <br />Approved: Unanimously. <br />VI. HEARING OF VISITORS <br />Don Sporleder mentioned several upcoming events and anniversaries. May is Preservation Month. <br />Michiana Watershed is coming upon its 50'' anniversary. Hoosier Rails and Trails is <br />celebration a July anniversary. The annual river cleanup is 3/31, beginning at 9am at <br />Veterans Memorial Park. AIA's 150`s anniversary is being celebrated April 7-141, with <br />Architects Week in South Bend. A Dyngus Day event will by held Monday, April 9t' at the <br />downtown DTSB studio. <br />4 <br />
