RECOMMENDATION: The Staff recommends approval. The proposed ornamental fence along the
west side of the house and yard is in keeping with the character of the house and will reintroduce a
documented stylistic element that pre dates the current stockade fencing. (The Staff has already approved
the removal of the arbor vitae and gingko tree along the fence line per City Forester, Brent Thompson's
assessment. Ms. Neal is going replace plantings with more appropriate shrubbery at a later date.)
Hostetler: The homeowners are here.
Klusczinski: Would you like to add anything?
Mrs Neal: We've only been in the house since
Klusczinski: Before that, please state your name and address for the record.
Mrs Neal: Kathleen Neal, 1329 E Washington. My husband Mark and I bought the house in, we
moved in in August and we are the fools that love old houses. So this is just the first ofprobably
many projects. The fence is constantly falling down on top of the bushes that are there, and we
could have easily replaced it with just another piece of wood stockade, and not come before you
but we really wanted to do it right. After we'd picked out the style, we were rummaging in the
basement, and found the (original) spear point that matches what we'd picked out. We hope that
you will- it's not in the front of the house, its all in the back, between our property and the
neighbors. It keeps our dog from wondering around.
Klusczinski: Nothing to add?
Mr Neal: Nothing to add.
Klusczinski: Any Commissioners with questions for the petitioners?
Riley: I have a question of interest. Is your fence very similar to your neighbor behind you on
Colfax?
Mrs Neal: My neighbor has a combination of eight foot chain link and then they just moved in
about the same time that we did, and they just installed four foot black aluminum. So, it's the
same material. They don't have any spear points, it's just a flat top straight across but it is
similar. They have a combination of chain link, stockade, and then the four foot.
Riley: Well, it's certainly attractive.
Mrs Neal: They've done a nice job and we contacted that company as one of the ones.
Riley: I applaud you for doing the same thing.
Mrs Neal: Thank you.
Klusczinski: Any other questions? Well, then I open the public hearing portion of this segment.
Is there a member of the public wishing to speakfor the petitioner? Hearing none, is there any
member of the public wishing to speak in opposition? Also hearing none, Commission
discussion? Does anyone have anything that they'd like to add?
Chase: It's nice to see new people following the rules of doing things.
Klusczinski: Well done. Finding offact: Certificate of Appropriateness 2007-0307A stands as
submitted. I'll entertain a motion.
Chase: So moved.
Riley: Second.
Klusczinski: Motion to... ? In favor? Is that what you meant?
Chase: Yes.
Klusczinski: All in favor? (Ayes are heard) Opposed? (Silence) Motion carries.
Congratulations.
Moved: Riley Second: Ujdak
Approval of Cof A 2007-0307A Approved Unanimously
B. LANDMARKS - None
C.
