South Bend Redevelopment Commission
Regular Meeting - May 16, 1997
6. NEW BUSINESS (Cont.)
b. continued....
Councilman John E. Broden presented the
following letter to the Commission. May
15, 1997. Dear Members of the
Redevelopment Commission: I am writing to
express my unequivocal support for the
request by C. D. T., L. L. C. for tax abatement
regarding its project to construct town
homes at the northeast corner of Niles and
Corby in South Bend. This project
represents a remarkable private sector
investment in the Northeast neighborhood.
The total cost of the development is nearly
two million dollars and the town homes
would be constructed on a beautiful bluff
overlooking the St. Joseph River and
downtown South Bend. For years, however,
this land has remained vacant and
undeveloped.
In addition to representing the Fouth
District on the Common Council, the area in
which this proposed development is located,
1 served on the Board of Directors for the
Northeast Neighborhood Council (NENC)
and NeighborhoodHousingServices (NHS).
Both the NHS and the NENC Boards have
endorsed this project. In fact, the NHS
Board has made the decision to back the
project monetarily and played an
instrumental role in C. D. T., L. L. C. 's efforts
to obtain financing. I hope you will join me
in supporting this project and this request
for tax abatement. Thank you in advance
for your consideration.
Sincerely, John E. Broden.
H:\ HOME\ CPHIPPS \WPDATA \COMMSN\051697.MIN -16-
