2. Correspondence <br />Director Hostetler presented correspondence from The Holland Historic District Commission of <br />Holland, MI. The note thanks HPC Staff for their assistance and proposes a visit to tour our <br />districts, meet Commissioners, and observe a meeting. Our colleagues from Holland will be <br />visiting South Bend on September 18, 2006. President Patrick reviewed previous plans to <br />reschedule the September meeting, but has decided to leave the meeting as scheduled. Martha <br />Choitz, Mary Jane Chase, Jerry Ujdak and HPC staff will assist with hosting and visit with our <br />visitors from Holland. <br />Catherine shared a letter from Ted Foti of Memorial Hospital inviting "hospital neighbors" to a <br />meeting on August 26" 2006, 10am, at the NNN Office on Portage Avenue to discuss the parking <br />situation facing Memorial and its surrounding neighborhoods. <br />C. STAFF REPORTS <br />1. Director's Report — Catherine Hostetler <br />Distributed to Commissioners. <br />2. Assistant Director's Report — Amy Herdman <br />Amy distributed the Six at Risk Report for Commission review, including color photos of the <br />properties on the list. Amy specifically thanked Commissioner Zeiger for his assistance and <br />guidance in the preparation of the report and the accompanying press release. <br />Commissioners were given 2 pieces of HPC note cards that were recently delivered to the office, <br />bearing the new HPC logo. <br />Commissioners were also given samples of "Historic Preservation Nuts" the new confection <br />created with South Bend Chocolate as a fundraiser for the HPC. <br />Commissioners approved an invitation for Ellen Harper of Main Street Indiana to South Bend for <br />an informational presentation on bringing that program to South Bend. <br />Moved: JU Second: JS - Vote: 7-0 Unanimous <br />A discussion followed regarding the.progress of a project at the Firehouse on Hill Street. Greg <br />Kil has been working on the addition -to the building and won the praise of the Commissioners <br />that have seen the work thus far. <br />3. Legal Report — Shawn Peterson <br />None given as Counsel was absent from the meeting. <br />IV. OLD BUSINESS <br />None discussed. <br />V. NEW BUSINESS <br />Martha expressed concern that the Portage Avenue corridor is being "lost", and encouraged the <br />Commission to do something to save the area. She further clarified the area that she was referring <br />to as both sides of Portage Avenue from Marquette St. North to Riverview Cemetery. <br />President Patrick moved this issue into the Districts Committee (chaired by Martha Choitz) for <br />further review and consideration. President Patrick asked to have a preliminary report prepared <br />for the September meeting. <br />VI. HEARING OF VISITORS <br />Guest Don Sporleder was recognized to speak. <br />Unfortunately due to paper shuffling, and other background disturbances, Mr. Sporleder's <br />comments are unintelligible. <br />ADJOURNMENT 8:40 pm <br />7 <br />
