Martha Choitz: I so move. Todd Zeiger seconded the motion and it passed unanimously
3. 1112 East Wayne Street: 2005-1202
Catherine Hostetler: The next certificate of appropriateness that we have before us is from 1112
East Wayne Street, Certificate of Appropriateness 2005-1202. Application items: The owners
propose to remove deteriorating; existing enclosed back porch constructed in the late 1940s or early
1950s out of eight storm doors, siding and topped with a shed roof. The new construction will be in
the exact footprint of the existing enclosure but constructed using a frame construction to allow for
year around use. The existing floor, upper framing and roof would be retained but the series of screen
doors will be replaced with lapboard siding from the ground to about three feet and new vinyl
windows would replace the upper portion.
Standards for East Wayne Street:II Existing Construction, D. Entrances, Porches and Steps: ,
Required: Porches and additions reflecting later architectural styles and which are important to the
building's historical integrity shall be retained. III New Construction B. Building Materials:
Required: Exterior materials used on a new structure shall be compatible in scale, texture and color
with adjacent structures. Materials used on an addition to an existing structure shall relate to the
existing or original materials of that structure. As much of the original structure as possible shall be
retained so that the addition could be removed with, I mean without, damage to the basic structure
and appearance of the building.
RECOMMENDATION: Staff recommends approval of the new enclosed back porch to replace this
make- shift construction, which is not original to the house. It will enhance the appearance of the
house from the rear and it will be in keeping with the scale of the house as well as with the materials
used through out this neighborhood.
The homeowners, John Sitter and Kate Ravin, were present and expressed that the report well
explained their project.
Todd Zeiger: I'd like to make a motion that we approve the Certificate of Appropriateness as
presented. I'd like to incorporate the staff comments in this motion. I move for approval as this
proposed work meets the standards of the district. Tim Klusczinski seconded the motion.
Joann Sporleder asked to correct the reading of the standards to say: "as much of the original structure
as possible shall be retained so that the addition could be removed without damage to the basic structure
and appearance of the building" as the motion included mention of the guidelines. Mary Jane Chase
moved to include the correction for the record. Todd seconded. All were in favor. Shawn Peterson
asked for a revote on the motion with the amendment for the record. All were again in favor, and the
motion passed.
4. 508 Lindsey: 2005-1207 A & B
Catherine Hostetler: The next Certificate of Appropriateness is 508 Lindsey, CoA 2005-1207.
