am incurring that cost also. I don't know what is going to happen here, but if I have to I
will go after the city, or the building department, or who ever issued that permit to recoup
that $1,100.00 dollars because they wrongfully submitted or gave out the permit.
ALADEAN DEROSE: The building department didn't follow their procedures.
TODD ZEIGER: Have we actually officially started this C of A yet?
CATHERINE HOSTETLER: No.
TODD ZEIGER: I would like to request that we begin this C of A like we normally do.
We don't have to start over; but, we do need to get this into a form where we can actually
act on this C of A.
LYNN PATRICK: Yes.
CATHERINE HOSTETLER: (See staff report, pictures, and work description attached
to C of A in HPC meeting binder). (Also see written inspection report from Mark E.
Gronek, P.E., and Geotechnical Exploration report prepared by Weaver Boos
Consultants, LLC, Geo -Environmental Engineers and Scientists). (The owner, Mr. Paul
Schmitt, was present).
TODD ZEIGER: I will make the motion on this C of A that demolition be approved. I
would also like to add in addition to the staff comments that some key architectural
elements on the interior be allowed to be salvaged and that the west wall of the one-story
building that is going to remain be re -clad with some sort of historical looking brick or
historic brick if possible; something that would fit in with his existing building. There
should also be some sort of window fenestration along the west side of that existing
building once that side has been re -clad.
PAUL SCHMITT: Is it ok if it looks like a window; but, might not actually be one?
TODD ZEIGER: Finally we need some sort of site plan for that corner once the
building is down. We understand you don't have a total plan right now about what's
going to go on with that corner and how it is going to look when it's done. These items
should be allowed to be worked out with staff and the Standards and Maintenance
Committee.
PAUL SCHMITT: Yes, I want it to look good too. I don't really want to put any
windows there; however, I could make it look like a window, just like what's up there on
the second story now, where they have the archways over it; but, it's bricked in.
TODD ZEIGER: The concern I am expressing is simply that it's not just a big blank
wail in that corner. When you're coming down the street you don't want to see a big
blank wall without any sort of window fenestration whatsoever. That's what I would put
out for some discussion among the commission and we could work that out. Obviously
we need some more details before we can finally act. We want to be able to get moving
on this so you don't have the nuisance.
PAUL SCHMITT: Well I can guarantee you that we will be doing some brick
veneering or something out there; but, first I have got to get the building down. If I can
get the building down next summer, the whole front of my building is going to look like
sin for awhile while they're trying to jack everything up because I actually have to get
this done before the first of the year so that the engineer can get his engineering work
done from the front. He really needs to have this done so I can sign the contract with him
to do the engineering for that part and then go ahead and get the concrete specialist. As
far as the side of the building goes we don't know yet, that may come down also. If I do
rebuild I promise you I will do it with some masonry that looks -----
m
