Jefferson Street
South Bend, Indiana 46601
Dear Commissioners,
First, we would like to thank the Historic Preservation Commission for providing a
community context for recent dialogue regarding the upcoming sewer outflow repair at
the corner of Riverside and Leland. At your last meeting, various commissioners raised
thoughtful and challenging questions and decided to postpone action on the City's
application for a Certificate of Appropriateness. Indeed, while the Commission neither
approved nor denied the application it received, I feel
plan that it ws partially
If funding is
that dialogue and your good offices th at an alternate p
forthcoming and the new plan is executed, it is expected to provide a more long -term
solution and have a much less deleterious impact on Shetterley Park. Again, we
appreciate your support in this process.
We are also writing today to urge you to consider action or advocacy in relation to the
repair currently underway on the North Michigan Street bridge. As we understand it,
there was at one time a pedestrian underpass beneath the bridge. In the interest of Leeper Park, nearby historic neighborhoods, and the
overall "walkability" of our community, in what way or ways might the Historic
Preservation Commission advocate for such an underpass at this point?
Thanks again for your continuing good work.
Sincerely,
Rolanda L.
