PO Box 107 - New Carlisle, IN 46552.574- 654 -3897 May /June 2006 From the President By Rich Konkowski Dear Members, We held our Annual Meeting last month in which I was nominated and voted to be your new president. I appreciate the honor and want to thank Nancy for her hard work and dedication serving as our president these last two years. It is hard to follow in certain people's shoes, but I will try my best. We had a very successful Annual Meeting last month. After the elections of new board members, we had a guest speaker, Jan Shupert- Arick, president of the Indiana Chapter of the Lincoln Highway Association. Jan shared the history of the Lincoln Highway accompanied by photos and great stories of this historic road that originally ran right through New Carlisle! The presentation was very informative and we would love to hear from any of our readers about stories, remembrances, or if you have any pictures of landmarks or anything pertaining to the historic highway. May is National Preservation Month! We will be hosting an architectural walking tour of downtown New Carlisle on Saturday, May 13 at 10:00 a.m. The tour will be led by our director, Dana Groves and is free of charge. If interested, meet at the gazebo at Memorial Park. Dana will talk about the history of our community while pointing out the various architectural styles that are represented in our National Register District. r Another project we will be starting later this spring -is the rehabilitation of the ice house an& smoke house that are on the Old Republic grounds. A generous donor has given us enough funds to complete the final phase of restoration. Volunteers have already cleaned out the debris and we are working with architect Greg Kil and the State Historic Preservation Office to determine our course of action and reuse of the structures. I am looking forward to serving as president for this great organization. Thank you to all of you, our members, for your continued, support! We couldn't do it without you. . �... .
