Assistant Director's Report
05-13-2005
Brochure:
We are almost complete with this project, half of which is supplemented by a DHPA grant. The
Historic Districts brochure has been completely redesigned with a more modern look, inclusion of
the current National Register and Local Historic Districts, and a color -coded map to show all the
districts. We hope to have the actual product in the office quite soon.
City & County Survey:
HLFI will be having their 3 day training seminar for the surveyors on May 23-25. In preparation for
this, Catherine and I, and Todd Zeiger and Shannon Hill from Landmarks have been working on a
much different mapping organization of the city survey. The past survey used a grid system to
divide the city into 90 some "quads." The old system cut neighborhoods and historic districts in half
and made the survey difficult to use. Instead, we have come up with 23 maps with more natural
boundaries that take into consideration the neighborhoods and development of the city.
The city survey will be organized with scattered sites listed first by map number, and then historic
districts and potential districts will follow. The survey will take into consideration properties dating
to the 1960s.
