442 Ill. New Construction (p.22) New construction includes any new <br />443 building or structure constructed within the boundaries of <br />444 the historic district, or any new addition to the existing <br />445 building. New construction should be designed considering <br />446 the appearance of the other buildings in the neighborhood. <br />447 New work may be contemporary or may suggest motifs from the <br />448 historic buildings. <br />449 A. Height and Proportion (p.23) The majority of structures in <br />450 the district are two stories in height and are square or <br />451 rectangular in plan. There are a few single story <br />452 bungalows. The most prevalent fagade proportions are <br />453 have a 1:1 and 1:2 height to width ratio. <br />454 Required (p.23) <br />455 The height of a new structure and its height to width proportions shall <br />456 be consistent with adjacent buildings in the district. <br />457 The building height shall be no greater than that of the tallest existing <br />458 structure and no less than that of the lowest existing structure in the <br />459 same block. <br />460 Fagade proportion shall be established by permitting no structure with a <br />461 facade wider or narrower than those existing in the same block. <br />462 Additions to existing buildings shall be related in height and proportion <br />463 to the existing structure. <br />464 Recommended (p.23) <br />465 It is recommended that contemporary designs be compatible in <br />466 character and mood to the building or neighborhood. <br />467 Prohibited (p.23) <br />468 Additions that would add new height or change the existing fagade of a <br />469 building and change its scale and architectural character may not be <br />470 constructed. <br />09 <br />
