Catherine Hostetler - Historic district guidelines
From: Marya Lieberman <mlieberm@nd.edu>
To: <chapinpark@hotmail.com>, <SBSJCHPC@co.st•joseph.in.us>
Date: 7/6/05 5:13 PM
Subject: Historic district guidelines
The guidelines require (not recommend) that all windows be repaired
rather than replaced until they are literally beyond repair.
New windows can greatly improve energy efficiency (eg double paned
windows) and are often much more convenient for the homeowner to
clean or to put up and take down screens and storm windows.
Please change the guideline that requires repair of windows to one
saying 'repair or replacement of windows shall not alter the
appearance of the house as seen from the street' The HPC could
assess whether replacement windows would alter the appearance of the
home by requesting pictures of the current windows and the
replacement windows.
I would appreciate a response to let me know this comment was received.
Regards,
Marya Lieberman
857 Forest
3875698
