Page 1 of 1 <br />Catherine Hostetler - Historic district guidelines <br />From: Marya Lieberman <mlieberm@nd.edu> <br />To: <chapinpark@hotmail.com>, <SBSJCHPC@co.st•joseph.in.us> <br />Date: 7/6/05 5:13 PM <br />Subject: Historic district guidelines <br />The guidelines require (not recommend) that all windows be repaired <br />rather than replaced until they are literally beyond repair. <br />New windows can greatly improve energy efficiency (eg double paned <br />windows) and are often much more convenient for the homeowner to <br />clean or to put up and take down screens and storm windows. <br />Please change the guideline that requires repair of windows to one <br />saying 'repair or replacement of windows shall not alter the <br />appearance of the house as seen from the street' The HPC could <br />assess whether replacement windows would alter the appearance of the <br />home by requesting pictures of the current windows and the <br />replacement windows. <br />I would appreciate a response to let me know this comment was received. <br />Regards, <br />Marya Lieberman <br />857 Forest <br />3875698 <br />
