JOANN SPORLEDER: If they take up the bricks for the sewer work, will they take up
the bricks for the entire roadway?
CATHERINE HOSTETLER: They're just talking from Navarre down to Riverside
Drive.
JOHN OXIAN: Every brick underneath the asphalt will be removed and then when they
have time they will clean the bricks and store them away like they have done with all of
the other bricks. They currently have 40,000 bricks. They are going to need at least
60,000 bricks. This is going to be a major sewer line. All the sewer lines in that area are
going to be consolidated into one major sewer line.
There was further discussion among commission members regarding this subject.
(The matter concerning the brick street on Lafayette Blvd. will be added to July's
meeting agenda under Old Business).
B. Assistant Director's Report
JULIE SCHUTTE: (Refer to purple copy of assistant director's report in HPC meeting
binder). She also showed proofs of the Historic Districts brochure for the commission's
approval. The consensus of the Commission was favorable. The city survey maps were
also presented to the Commission.
2. Legal — (No report)
IV. OLD BUSINESS
CATHERINE HOSTETLER:. (Refer to yellow colored sheet in HPC meeting binder).
Catherine asked commission members what they would like to do about the fence that is
located at 513 River Avenue that went through the Standards and Maintenance
Committee. " This permit constitutes a variance from district guidelines and is granted
only because of unusual circumstances and shall be valid only during the residence of the
present owners and immediately upon their no longer using this home as their primary
residence they shall remove the fence at their own expense"(COA#2001-0323). They
have moved, there has been a divorce, there have been financial issues, and the house is
up for sale and the fence is still there. The commission would like the fence to come
down because the owners no longer live there; which was a stipulation in the original C
of A. The neighbors are also aware of the stipulation and they would also like the fence
to come down. John Oxian made a motion that this be tabled until next month to give
commission members a chance to look at the property before they make a final decision.
Joann Sporleder seconds the motion and it passes unanimously.
Catherine also stated that she still had the original copy of the C of A and had no way of
knowing if the owner ever saw the original C of A. John Oxian stated that the owners
were informed because they were at the meeting when the C of A was approved. John
Livingston stated that the presence of the original C of A in the office did not pose any
legal problems for the commission.
Joann Sporleder talked about a conference she and her husband had attended in
Indianapolis last fall on historic mortars. She passed out detailed information about
historic mortars, a picture of where the International Masonry Headquarters is located, an
article on railroad bridges, and an article about a black town in Illinois that is being
archeologically dug up.
