They have been around for about 100 years. Mr. Gibson lives in an Arts and Crafts type
bungalow styled house; so we figured this would be something that he would like. The
pottery is done in a nice turquoise shade that would go with his interior and he also owns
a cat and this has a cat on it.
LYNN PATRICK: Are we sure that somebody is going to be there to receive each one
of these awards?
CATHERINE HOSTETLER: Yes, Cynthia Bodle will be there for the commissioners;
Father Chrobot will be there for Saint Patrick's; and Doug Gibson will be flying in and
six of his family members will be here for Saturday.
3. Chapin Park Standards/Historic Districts Report
(Moved to first item on the meeting agenda)
4. Standards and Maintenance Committee — 543 Edgewater
CATHERINE HOSTETLER: Mr. Doug Tumock submitted designs for a garage door
and also did a landscaping plan. Joann, Gerry, Martha and I met and approved Doug's
plan. We gave him a C of A and hopefully he can pull a building permit.
John Oxian asked how much of a change was made from what he proposed earlier.
Catherine Hostetler said there was not really much of a change at all; except for the
garage door. John Oxian asked what they decided on for the garage door. Catherine
Hostetler said that he is going to install a garage door that compliments the architecture
of his house and will look like two garage doors; but, will actually be one large garage
door instead.
D. Director's Report
CATHERINE HOSTETLER: (Refer to cream colored copy of director's report in HPC
meeting binder).
JOHN OXIAN: There was an important statement made during the May 11, 2005
meeting that Mary Jane Chase, I, and Catherine attended. Even though we won't be
directly involved, we should give our opinions. There was some discussion about
removing the bricks on Lafayette Street when they put in a new sewer line. Gary Gilot
mentioned that there were three things that he wanted opinions on. I think we as a
commission should give an opinion on whether we want those bricks removed. Gary said
that if they remove the bricks, he will use them in another district to recreate a street; if
he has enough bricks. Some people want the brick streets to remain and some want them
removed. There was also a discussion on whether it should be asphalt pavement there or
concrete. There was an idea for the intersections that they either put the bricks back in or
put in concrete that looks like bricks. The other one is regarding a sidewalk; which they
will be coming in for a C of A. I think we should be interested in this one because at one
time about fifteen years ago we introduced an ordinance in the city council to make all
the brick streets into a landmark. The city said that if we lay off of this then they would
work with the commission on preserving as many of these bricks streets as possible. So
far they have done a pretty good job. We have lost a few streets; but most of them have
not been paved over. I think this is an important issue and we should discuss this or at
least come up with an idea by next month's commission meeting.
