JULIE SCHUTTE: The resolution for Mr. Clark, the owner of 401 E. Indiana Avenue, is ready to be
sent to the Common Council. Staff is also ready to send an inquiry letter to the owners of 1606
Ewing Avenue to see if they would be again interested in landmarking their home as a local
landmark. Staff has also prepared letters of inquiry to the owners of The Round Barn in Union
Township, the Peter Schaffer Farm on Roosevelt Road, and the Schaffer Farm on Miami Road.
CATHERINE HOSTETLER: The staff and Mary Jane Chase went to the Cornelius O'Brien—Main
Street Conference in Madison. This is the first time they have combined the two. I would urge the
commission if they know anyone in the Planning Departments in the various parts of the city or
Economic Development to go to this conference; because they have a lot of resources and a lot of
neat ideas that would dove -tail quite nicely with what Historic Preservation is trying to do to
revitalize downtown.
I have my report and Julie's report and Mary Jane has her report; but, unfortunately, we didn't
make copies of her report, so we will have it for you in our next meeting packet. The green copy is
Julie's report and the white copy is mine.
We all went to different workshops so that we could come back with the most information
possible.
JOANN SPORLEDER: I suggest that a redraft of your reports could be sent to the appropriate city
agencies to increase their awareness of the O'Brien -Main Street Conference; Staff should also
attempt to send in a bid for the conference's return to South Bend.
2. Grant status: Brochure approved; Decennial Survey of City &
County new estimates
CATHERINE HOSTETLER: We had our brochure approved last month and we are waiting for the
contract for the printing from Rink's. We expect to have that before the end of the month so we can
again get Rink's started on that district's brochure.
We also have the ten-year survey of the city and the county. There is going to be a double
printing of those. Final ETA basically of this project is going to be in 2006; possible even 2007.
There will be two printings; thus, they have increased the cost because of the two printings and it is
going to be $6,000.00 to $8,000 dollars more than what we anticipated, and we have taken care of
that as well.
I also have a contract for Wayne Doolittle and a contract for the transcription services for the
Commission Secretary to sign. Kathy Oxian can sign hers, and we can give Wayne his contract
tomorrow, so that we will be able to get purchase orders and encumber those funds in our budget for
next year.
3. Legal Report
JOHN LIVINGSTON: I talked with the deputy prosecutor this afternoon and he informed me that
Mr. Ed Talley has reimbursed $17,000418,000 dollars of the monies that he has taken from the
Historic Preservation Commission. Mr. Talley was given a year's probation with some personal
community service.
4
