CHUCK LEONE: We use this in the legal department sometimes for people who want
to enter city buildings. There are folks who go into these buildings who don't have any
relationship to the city. When this happens we want to make sure that they know that
these buildings are essentially dangerous places and they are going in at their own risk.
We as a city are not responsible for that.
John Oxian asked Chuck Leone who would be responsible for putting the indemnity
agreement together. Chuck Leone said that it would be better if the legal department put
one together. John Oxian then asked Chuck Leone if he would be willing to put together
an indemnity agreement for them. Chuck Leone stated that he would be willing to do so.
The indemnity agreement includes the following parties: Studebaker Michiana Chapter
members, Bob Yapp, HPC members.
V. NEW BUSINESS
CATHERINE HOSTETLER: I have passed out a copy which lists the events and
workshops for HPC members for the months of August, September, and October. We
have also received nomination forms for the Servaas Memorial Award through Historic
Landmarks Foundation and also applications for the Presidential Preserve America
Award for 2006. I have both the applications and the guidelines here for anybody who
wants to consider some nominees. The National Alliance of Preservation Commission,
(NAPC), form, is being scheduled for July 27` through July 3&, 2006.
JOHN OXIAN: I don't know where the survey is being done now; but, I would like to
propose that the surveyors do all of LaSalle Street and Woodward Avenue in the very
near future. I still feel that LaSalle Street should be brought in as an historic district at
least to Chapin Street. I also think that Woodward Avenue should also be considered
again as an historic district. I have had some dealings with several people on that street
who were still interested in making that street an historic district and felt left out when we
made Riverside Drive a historic district. There has been more of an interest for this in the
eleven to twelve hundred blocks more so than farther in the south. I recently spoke with
a person from there who asked me for my opinion about his garage and how he was
going to replace it; so I went over there to give him my opinion. He's been living there
for about twenty -eight years. A lot of the houses are still in fine condition there. I don't
exactly agree with the prior ratings on the houses there either. It was like somebody went
through and rated most of the houses a nine except for a few of them.
V1. HEARING OF VISITORS
DON SPORLEDER: The International Masonry Institute has its stone restoration
workshop coming up again on Monday, August 29` in Annapolis, Maryland. This is a
follow up to last year's very effective workshop on historic masonry. I would encourage
those on the commission who can make it to attend. It is reasonably priced and will be a
very important workshop on stone restoration.
VII. ANNOUNCEMENTS, MISCELLANEOUS, ADJOURNMENT
LYNN PATRICK: We stand adjourned.
Meeting adjourned at 9:00 pm.
Historic Preservation Commission
Minutes: August 15, 2005
ATTEST: Secretary
