BOB YAPP: If this commission can gain access to the inside of the building for me;
then Historic Landmark Foundation of Indiana and I, as the representative, would be glad
to do that.
John said that when they send the letter to Abe Marcus they should put his name down
and he will be able to get access to the inside of the building.
Joann Sporleder asked if Bob could assist in getting some kind of assessment of the
building's current condition in view of restoring it to a useful condition. Bob stated that
within and hour and a half to two hours of being in and outside the building and getting
up and looking at the roof; he would be able to give them a quick interim assessment of
the building.
JOANN SPORLEDER: I will make a motion that an interim assessment be done by
Bob Yapp regarding the current condition and the cost involved in restoring the
Carpenter building at 637 South Layette to a usable condition.
MARY JANE CHASE: Seconds the motion and it passes unanimously.
III. John
also requested an itemized up to date list of what monies had been expended from the
contractual services account. He also said that he would be able to present a report on
this at the next commission meeting.
C. COMMITTEE REPORT
1. President's Report: Executive Committee 7/7
LYNN PATRICK: It was a very fruitful meeting and it was decided at that meeting
when we spoke with the director of the NNN regarding her needs for timeliness in
response to potential properties they would like to acquire and rehab in the Chapin Park
Local Historic District. Primarily these are properties that have been divided up into
multiple units that need to be restored back into single - family dwellings. We discussed
several scenarios and it was decided that she would develop a list of properties that she
might be interested in acquiring and that the commission would be able to review these
and come up with a rough scenario of what we would allow. The point of this was that
Karen needed to understand what we would be allowing as far as renovation, possible
siding treatments, etc. She could then make a bid and have a rough idea whether it would
be feasible to restore that building, keeping with historic guidelines, on a cost effective
basis. We are expecting to hear back from her on a list of probably about five houses for
us to review and look over and get back with her on. We expect a future meeting on this.
I will give her a quick phone call tomorrow and ask her if she has started to work on her
list yet.
JOHN OXIAN: If we are going to make an exception for her after she gives us the list,
if we do; then we should adopt a policy of some sort that would pertain to a situation in
rd
