IV. OLD BUSINESS
Vote on HFLI Commission Assistance Program Contract
Catherine presented a copy of the proposed HFLI contract for the commission's approval.
(See white copy of contract in meeting packet).
JOHN OXIAN: I will make a motion that the contract be approved with the
supplementary letter presented by Bob Yapp.
GERALD UJDAK: Seconds the motion and it passes unanimously.
CATHERINE HOSTETLER: Once the contract has been approved, Mr. Bob Yapp
wanted to know if the commission would be interested in participating in the removal of
all the aluminum siding on the house located at 1319 East South Street as a workshop. It
is in the proposed Bronson Street -South Street - Sunnymede Historic District. An attorney
had approached him about doing this. Most of the homes in the Bronson Street area are
all aluminum sided; except for one of them. If we ever brought this district in, we would
probably bring it in as a conservation district and hope that they would take all of the
aluminum siding off and then re -rate the district.
JOHN OXIAN: I will make a motion that the house located at 1319 East South Street be
selected as an unveiling candidate as suggested on May 14 to begin work on removal of
the aluminum siding. We agree to take part in this project. This project will constitute
one of our workshops as contracted with Historic Preservation Commission and
Landmarks Foundation.
LYNN PATRICK: Seconds the motion and it passes unanimously.
Lynn Patrick also made a notation in the minutes that she thinks the commission needs to
meet with Bob Yapp to talk and work with him on picking out a workshop that the
commission might be interested in working on for their next project.
JOHN OXIAN: I would like to have the staff put together a map and another staff report
for 619 Sherman so I can take it to the common council, since I have all of the
information now.
John Livingston stated that he had spoken with Aladean DeRose about this and she
suggested that he send out another certified letter to the owner. John Oxian stated that it
does not say anywhere in the Preservation Plan that it is required to send more than one
letter to the owner and whatever Aladean DeRose is wanting to do is in direct violation of
the Preservation Plan as adopted by the Common Council through resolution. John
Livingston said that from what he was told, they want to be sure that everybody has a
chance to appeal this. The owner does not live in the city, and the first certified letter we
sent her has not come back yet. The other problem we have with this property is that it is
already on the code enforcement list. John Oxian said that if Catherine Brucker does
decide to put this house into a receivership program then he would pull back on this
because he already knows somebody who lives across the street who would like to take
this house on a receivership and eventually make the house into a land mark. John
Livingston said that he would talk to Catherine Brucker, the director of code
enforcement, tomorrow, and get her opinion on the condition of the house and see if they
are planning on taking any further action on the matter. John Oxian then asked if he
could come with Mr. Livingston when he goes and talks with Catherine Brucker about
this matter. Mr. Livingston said that he would relate both John's and his comments and
concerns about this matter to her and would let him know what her response was.
3
