Room 264 <br />of Transportation Indisnaoolia, Indians 46204 <br />F*dMI NOW <br />AdmWstndon <br />March 1, 2004 <br />HDA -IN <br />Dear Consulting Party: <br />Subject: US 31 Plymouth to South Bend Draft EIS <br />Section 106 Meeting on March 19, 2004 <br />Formal Invitation to Consulting Parties <br />The Federal Highway Administration (FHWA),.in cooperation with <br />the Indiana Department of Transportation, is preparing,an <br />Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) that will study the full. <br />range of alternatives for U.S. 31 from Plymouth to South Bend. <br />Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act of 1966 <br />requires Federal agencies to take into account the effects of <br />their undertakings on historic properties and provide the <br />Advisory Council on Historic Preservation the opportunity to <br />comment on effects to historic properties. <br />The Draft Environmental Impact Statement (DEIS), which was mailed <br />to you on February 26, 2004, identifies three alternatives to be <br />studied in detail, Alternatives Cs, Es, and C -G. Please refer to <br />Section 4.6 of the DEIS, which. lists those historic properties <br />located in the Area of Potential Effects (APE) for each <br />alternative. Section 5.6 describes the anticipated effects the <br />Alternatives Cs, Es, and G -C will have upon National Register <br />listed or eligible properties in the APE. <br />As a consulting party, we cordially invite you to attend a <br />Section 106 meeting to provide your comments on the potential <br />effects on historic and archaeological properties for <br />Alternatives Cs, Es, and C -G. <br />Please join us on: <br />Friday March 19, 2004, 10:00 am, Old Lakeville School <br />Project on US 31 (just north of Lakeview) <br />You are also invited to attend the public hearing where the <br />findings of the DEIS will be presented. Two sessions will be held <br />on Thursday March 18, 2004. Each session willfeature an "Open <br />House" area, a formal presentation, and a public comment session. <br />The format, information presented, and display materials will be <br />identical at each session. Session one (1) will be held at the Old <br />Lakeville School Project Building, 601 N. Michigan Street (U.S. 31) <br />in Lakeville from:2:00 to 4:30 pm with doors opening at 1:00 pm. <br />Session two (2) will be held at the LaVille Jr.- Sr. High School, <br />69969 US 31 South, in Lakeville from 7:00 pm to 9:30 pm with doors <br />opening at 6:00 pm. Project area maps, displays, and handouts will <br />be available for public inspection during both sessions. <br />
