Saint Casimir's Parish National Register Historic District
Hooses with and without Character Defining Features
4a
.N. .
Wide gabled front brick house, a style rarely found
throughout the rest of South Bend. Important features of
the home are the following:
• Brick fagade
\• Arched window openings with stone sills
• Small two light over two light attic window
• A more youthful styled porch with railings dat-
ing to the 1940s and 1950s.
This two story L plan cottage has seen many changes in-
cluding new windows and decorative shutters. Yet, the
home's finely crafted tapered and square porch piers, porch
railings, and brick pedestals are in fine condition and have
/ not been enclosed or removed.
Despite the good intentions of its owner, this hco-stay
vernacular home has a side porch that does not match the
house and the craftsmanship of the other porches in the St.
Casimir neighborhood. Compared to the porch above, this
mismatching porch has high Victorian leanings, extra thin
posts and too delicate gingerbread — a recent trend.
-Pa«e4-
