that they would be seeking demolition if no action were taken. There is some possibility
that other houses in the district are in bad enough shape that they would also require
demolition. This would be a very good time for the commission to take a look at that
district and think about some ways in which repair could be encouraged or at least
maintenance.
JOHN OXIAN: I still go back to the idea, which I talked over with Wayne Doolittle, in
which we saved two houses, and one of them was a landmark; and that is we have to
think about a receivership program.
We saved a house on Cottage Grove, which was a landmark, which was going to
be demolished; but; was saved by going into receivership. We also saved another house
on Lincolnway, which was going to be demolished, which was also saved by going into
receivership.
Is code enforcement willing to allow some one to come into the receivership
program, or are they going to still waste time like they have for the last five years?
JULIE SCHUTTE: I don't know what their decision is.
2. 1158 Lincolnway East, local district, partial loss of contributing
structure; also 1402-1404 Lincolnway East, code enforcement
issue, 2002 C of A.
JULIE SCHUTTE: Gerry Ujdak and Wayne Doolittle both drove through the district and
mentioned that the house located at 1158 Lincolnway East is vacant and is currently up
for auction on April P. Staff is currently working on a letter to send to the auctioneer to
notify him that this house is in an historic district and what the district standards are.
JOHN OXIAN: Who is the auctioneer?
GERRY UJDAK: Haines. I spoke with him and he told me that it was a foreclosure or
bankruptcy.
JULIE SCHUTTE: Also in the district, the window that is boarded up at 1402-1404
Lincolnway East is still covered with plywood. There have been some repairs made to
the barn/carriage house at 1202 Lincolnway East, which Wayne Doolittle took photos of.
They have also replaced the siding on the barn.
3. Correspondence.
JULIE SCHUTTE: We received word that they are going to have public hearings about
the US 31 project. They have published the draft environmental impact statement, and
we have a full copy of it in our office. A public hearing is going to be held this Thursday,
at 1:00 at the old Lakeville School, and then again at 7:00 pm at LaVille Jr/Sr High
School on US 31. The doors will open at 6:00 pm for that meeting.
VA
