JOANN SPORLEDER: I move that we take this St. Casimir parish national register historic district
preservation commission's document and propose we use the entire
document as a preliminary guideline for redevelopment which can be amended or added to as necessary.
GERALD UJDAK: Seconds the motion and it passes unanimously.
John Oxian stated that he would like to mention item number one under New Business; (Oliver Foundry
Building: Proposed Memorandum of Agreement for demolition) next since the two Oliver Foundry
buildings are part of the St. Casimir national register historic district.
I would also like to table the Memorandum of Agreement until we come up with a more definite
idea on this. Sometime between now and April I would like to have a meeting so that I can tell you the
whole story on whether I should sign this Memorandum of Agreement or not. I would like everyone who
has not read this Memorandum of Agreement to read it before we set up a meeting.
LYNN PATRICK: I will make a motion that we table this.
GERALD UJDAK: Seconds the motion and it passes unanimously.
2. Bronson Street proposed local historic district
JULIE SCHUTTE: The Bronson Street Committee is having a meeting tonight at 7:00 pm to discuss their
application for a local historic district. They have put together a map and are in the process of putting
together an ownership list. They are highly motivated; but, their district committee doesn't seem to be fully
established at this time. I think they will be electing officers at tonight's meeting.
John Oxian asks Julie to give a report on what happens at the meeting.
D. STAFF REPORTS
1. 531 S. St. Joseph Street, Taylor's Field Local Historic District:
Code Enforcement possible request for demolition pending.
JULIE SCHUTTE: Last week there was a code enforcement hearing on 531 South St. Joseph Street. The
house is owned by Provident Bank and is being sold by McGinty. The bank unfortunately did not send a
representative to the meeting. Code Enforcement was seeking to place a five thousand dollar fine on the
bank; however, the hearing officer decided that a four thousand dollar fine would be placed on the bank. I
spoke with Scott Horvath, the code enforcement inspector who is in charge of that area. He informed me
that they would be seeking demolition if no action were taken. There is some possibility that other houses
in the district are in bad enough shape that they would also require demolition. This would be a very good
time for the commission to take a look at that district and think about some ways in which repair could be
encouraged or at least maintenance.
JOHN OXIAN: I still go back to the idea, which I talked over with Wayne Doolittle, in which we saved
two houses, and one of them was a landmark; and that is we have to think about a receivership program.
We saved a house on Cottage Grove, which was a landmark, which was going to be demolished;
but, was saved by going into receivership. We also saved another house on Lincolnway, which was going
to be demolished, which was also saved by going into receivership.
Is code enforcement willing to allow some one to come into the receivership program, or are they
going to still waste time like they have for the last five years?
JULIE SCHUTTE: I don't know what their decision is.
2. 1158 Lincolnway East, local district, partial loss of contributing
structure; also1402-1404 Lincolnway East, code enforcement
