JOHN OXIAN: I would recommend that when you do anything on these houses, or you get down into
specifics, that you first go to Gerald Ujdak, who is assigned to that, and meet with Julie Schutte.
3. Landmark plaque arrival.
Julie Schutte informed the commission that a few weeks ago the landmark plaques arrived. She
brought examples of the plaques, and all agreed that they were very nice indeed.
V. NEW BUSINESS
1. McKinley Highway Improvement & Locust Road Projects; 106
review; opinion.
JULIE SCHUTTE: We received some correspondence from Lawson -Fisher Associates, regarding the
McKinley Highway Corridor Improvements Project. Currently it is a two-lane roadway and they
would like to expand it into a four lane road with two travel lanes and a continuous two-way left turn
lane. Staff has not done too much research into the area and staff would like some guidance as to
where the cut off would be from Mishawaka since Historic Preservation's first description of the
highway
JOHN OXIAN: You would start at the city limits. There isn't much on McKinley. They have already
made some areas into a four -lane road.
JULIE SCHUTTE: There is also information about a US 20 bridge replacement over Locust Road.
The bridge is a twentieth century concrete overpass bridge. The engineers do not foresee any threat to
important nearby structures.
2. Commission member training and scholarship opportunities.
Scholarships are available for commission member training. Contact Steve Kennedy, (DPHA)
VII. ANNOUNCEMENTS & MISCELLANEOUS MATTERS
(Nothing to report)
VIII. ADJOURNMENT
MARY JANE CHASE: I will make a motion to adjourn the meeting.
LYNN PATRICK: Seconds the motion.
Meeting ended at 10:10.
7
