South Bend Redevelopment Commission
Regular Meeting - March 7, 1997
6. NEW BUSINESS (Cont.)
a. continued....
regarding indemnification, whether it
applies to the Redevelopment
Commission or not which he is not certain
that it does or doesn't.
He noted that his bid was significantly
higher than the $70,000 price the
Commission mentioned. It did include the
offset for the amount of money that he
was told it would probably cost to
demolish the current existing structure.
He noted that if they were to be
responsible for the environmental work it
would probably be higher than the price of
the land. He noted to the Commission
that he didn't believe that the Commission
could escape the responsibility of
indemnification and that he is not
requesting a tax abatement at this time.
He also noted that he did turn in the
performance guarantee.
Mr. Hunt noted that the Commission
doesn't give tax abatements, they can only
suggest that to the Common Council.
Mr. Donoho noted that if the developers
are requesting that the Commission share
in the cost of the environmental work that
may need to be done to the site, the
Commission would need more time to
evaluate the cost of the environmental
work.
Mr. Harrison noted that his concern is
with safety and environmental
compliance with federal regulations.
H:\ HOME\ CPHIPPS \WPDATA \COMMSN\030797.MIN -12-
