KAREN HAMMOND -NASH: I told you at the Leeper Park Beautification Meeting that
the rocks had been restored. I had been informed by the Parks Department, that in fact
the rocks were put back. Since then the Neighborhood Association has said that there
weren't enough rocks and that the rocks were smaller than the original ones. So, my
original findings report was apparently wrong.
The Parks Department did make an effort to restore the rocks; however, the
Neighborhood Association was not satisfied with their effort.
JOHN OXIAN: I think if they want our help that's fine; but, I think they should also set
up a meeting and talk with the Parks Department themselves as a committee. It should be
a joint effort and not just left to the HPC per say.
KAREN HAMMOND -NASH: The additional correspondence is in regards to the
believed Indian or settler burial grounds. Randy Sheepish and Mark Aspen, who are the
county council member and county commission member representing German and
Warren Township area have both met with me regarding that matter, and inquired about
what they might be able to do to assist their constituents in getting an archeological
investigation site. We do not yet have any response from the state archeologist as to
whether they would send their Cemetery Registration Project Archeologist to South
Bend.
In regards to the efforts were making and mostly in order to keep the Neighborhood
Association informed, Diane Wrobel -illes very kindly wrote a letter which we sent to all
the people in the proposed local district. (See attached copy of letter).
JOHN OXIAN: You have one more letter that you sent back to Tonya concerning Oliver
School. The letter was sent to us informing us that bids will be taken on the demolition
of the building and they wanted us to again inform them of what we would like to see
saved. We also included with that letter, the letter which we sent to Mr. Foti concerning
the discussion we had at the Leeper Park Beautification meeting, where he wanted all of
the fagade to be used on the parking garage facing St. Joe Street.
Karen, have you gotten in touch with Mr. Foti concerning this, since you sent that last
letter.
KAREN HAMMOND -NASH: I received a phone call from Mr. Foti thanking me for the
information.
JOHN OXIAN: That is the information that we have concerning the letter concerning
Oliver School. If they work with us and they work with Mr. Foti we could save all of the
fagade from Oliver School.
E. COMMITTEE REPORTS
1. River Bank Coordinating Committee
Meeting to be set.
LYNN PATRICK: (See attached Riverbank Coordinating Committee Report).
