9-03-2002 2:52AM FROM KIL ARCHITECTURE 219 288 2654 P.3
SEP -3-8008 11:51A FROM:MASONRY CONTRACTORS 2192734075 TO: 2898420 P=3/3
y \ Z have estimated the total cost to reconstruct the Entrance Archway at $70,000.00 this
would include salvaging the necessary pieces of terra cotta and using new brick. The
existing brick on site would be far too costly to salvage, clean and reuse. New brick that
closely matches the existing is readily available from local suppliers.
Bid Packages
It is my opinion that the demolition and salvaging packages be offered separately. The
terra cotta salvaging operation will require knowledgeable personnel who have worked
with the material and understand it's installation and anchorage systems. A careful and
considerate approach will be needed to salvage suitable pieces for reuse.
The idea of removing some examples the terra cotta is in my opinion appropriate. The
cost of new terra cotta is astronomical. For instance, the cost to create one new piece
marked "B" would be approximately $15,000.00. or more. Mold costs run approximately
$1,000.00 per piece and most of the examples to be salvaged would require a dozen or
more molds to recreate since each example is constructed of multiple pieces.
As for a market for the existing pieces, I know there is one, but further investigation is
needed to find out as to what the market is bringing for salvaged terra cotta.
Also, our labor rate per man hour is $65.00/hr. The man lift rate is approximately
$150.00 per day. Transporting salvaged pieces to another site with a forklift would
amount to approximately $1,500.00.
I hope that this helps you in your efforts and if you have any further questions please call
at anytime.
Respectfully,
Steven P. Bognar
Masonry Contractors Inc.
SPB
