September 8, 2002
Mr. Jim Aranowski, Councilman
Common Council Office
County - City Building
227 West Jefferson
South Bend, Indiana 46601
RE: Proposal for new streetlights for East Riverside Drive
Dear Mr. Aranowski:
The River Bend Historical Neighborhood would like to propose the installation of
the same light poles and luminaires that have been used at the new parking facility at the
island, to be continued down Riverside Drive east.
We were adamant about keeping our original concrete poles and cast metal
luminaires that were unnecessarily taken down approximately 7 years ago. This was a
tremendous disservice to our Historical Neighborhood, as the poles ended up refurbished
and in other historical neighborhoods. The installation of the "Town and Country"
fiberglass poles infuriated the neighbors as our requests to reinstall the original poles fell
on deaf ears.
The installation of new poles that match the ones in the park with a soft light
would be a win-win situation. It would enhance the park and give it continuity as well as
giving back to our River Bend Historical Neighborhood what was taken away.
Karen Hammond -Nash is working closely with us to try and make this happen.
Any assistance you can give her in this matter would be greatly appreciated. Thank you
for your consideration with this proposal.
Sincerely,
ichele Gelfman
River Bend Neighborhood Liaison^
Julia sLauriers
River Bend Neighborhood Liaison
cc: Karen R.
