If there are other alternatives that might be architecturally acceptable for ventilating the
attic; and that would preserve the background windows that add character defining
features of the house than staff would recommend that. If, however, upon consideration
there still is no other alternative for adequate ventilation then staff would reluctantly
agree to the removal of the windows and Mr. Van O-.vrberghe being aware that there was
in the short time since this application was the opportunity to put all the answers to the
questions in the packet and appear himself to answer whatever questions the Commission
has.
GARY VAN OVERBERGHE: WithVan Overbergbe Builders, 53922 Olive Road, here
with Eric Morgan, from 209 North Shore Drive. To answer any questions you might
have.
JOANN SPORLEDER: Can you save the half round windows? The openings?
GARY VAN OVERBERGHE: Yes.
JOANN SPORLEDER: You can work with them like that, and put some other kind in
there instead?
GARY VAN OVERBERGHE: What we propose to do is put a louvered -back style
wood, made out of cedar, custom made to fit in the exact opening without removing the
exterior trim or jeopardizing the integrity of the siding around the area. The actual glass would be removed and the custom -tit -louvered -vent made out
of cedar would be installed. I don't have a picture of a cedar vent, louvered -styled, but I
have a picture of a louvered -half -circle vent type that you can look at in the photo if you
need to. It is made of a different material; but, it gives you the general idea of the look of
a louver.
JOANN SPORLEDER: My impressions when I went out and looked at it Saturday, that
especially this one, they both show from the street. Now you got to be looking for them;
but they do show. If you were to remove that, they should be saved, they should be put
into storage in your attic or somewhere and labeled very clearly what they are.
Whatever comes out of there. The frame work, especially on the one that is the fan
shaped; because, that undoubtedly was the original one to the house. But, other than that,
I have no questions.
JOHN OXIAN: You have to remove both?
GARY VAN OVERBERGHE: Yes, to provide proper ventilation.
JOHN OXIAN: So the only thing you are removing then, is not just the glass; but, the --
2R
