5. 2002-0413; 119 LaPorte
JEFF BRENDT: Now that I am actually living at the property, I have run across
numerous problems. The original property that the house sits on has a very small front
yard. The previous owner purchased the adjacent lot and ended up increasing the side
yard by eighty-five percent.
I did put the fence where the Certificate of Appropriateness had instructed me to put
it and it literally cuts off a section that is 42' x 76'. I do not need a garden that big and
this is a waste of a lot of yard space. They also use my front yard as a dumping ground
for all their unwanted trash.
I felt that a garden area roughly 12' x 76' is plenty of space for me. Since I have
several dogs that stand over six feet tall, I am going to have to reinforce the fencing that
is already there because one of my dogs has knocked down one section of the fence
already. When I reinforce that section of the fence, I am going to have to use some type
of fence that is stronger than the one that is currently there.
This house is one of the only houses on that street that sits almost right in the street.
If anyone ever runs over the curb they will end up hitting my house because that is how
close my house is to the street.
What I would like to do is cut the garden area to the front corner of the home giving
me more of a barrier and covering this area with evergreens or arborvitae. I have already
priced_ the 6 foot trees at $60.00 a piece, and I am probably going to need at least thirty of
them.
There is a picket fence out front and it runs the entire length of the property. What I
want to do is plant hedges behind the picket fence, and once the hedges have gotten to the
proper height I would then remove the picket fence. I also want to continue the hedges
up to the corner of the house on the other side of Laporte and then start on the corner
where the driveway is and going the rest of the way down. I really think that this would
improve the way the property looks.
The north side of my property is going to be twelve feet facing the street and seventy-
six feet to the alley. There is a large section of a concrete wall that is located on the north
side of my property at the end of the lot that I want to remove and have the area enclosed
for privacy. I want to leave some type of barrier there because they have almost hit the
wall.
At some point I would like to remove that section and go back to the existing privacy
fence. For the time being I will have to leave that front corner part of the wall until I can
figure out a way to stop people from running into my fence. I don't want to lose a fence
every week. So I am going to have a fence running from the front corner of my house
across the property to the lot wall and we are going to remove that section of the lot wall
back to the existing privacy fence. I will have to gate right in the middle of my privacy
fence with an arbor. I was not planning on putting any openings between the boards in
my fence and I need the privacy fence to be at least six foot high because of the large
dogs that I have.
I figure the arbor body ones would eventually grow in and it will basically cover it _
anyway, and I really don't think that it will detract from the property. I do want to put
my trees in front of my privacy fence. The design I would like to do is very similar, and I
have already purchased the cherry trees when they were on sale. The design will stay
Ni
