JOHN OXIAN: How about your light here?
NANCY ICKLER: Well, what we are going to do is keep the light. But, we have not
completely decided yet how we are going to do that. This light fixture is a very good
safety feature though.
JOHN OXIAN: Because, if you widen the driveway you will be coming right up next to
the light fixture so your going to have to move it back.
NANCY ICKLER: We will have to move the light fixture back. The problem with the
spirea is that it's so close to the driveway and to our sidewalk; because it goes all along
that Twykenham area. We have cut them back and when the spirea is cut back it then
begins to branch out where ever it has been cut back. They then get very thick and you
can not see the light through them and also the plant I am sure feels like it is under
constant siege; because it gets cutback two or three times in a season. But, if you just let
it grow the way it would naturally, it would grow along that area. It is just not a healthy
plant and the plant is old. So, I guess the question is can we move it back. Our
landscaper said that he thought we could; but, he was not sure. Our landscaper is more
confident than I am, he thinks that it can maybe be moved back and cut down and would
regenerate; other wise he would have to put in other plants. But, you can see from one of
those pictures that it is really dangerous backing out of that driveway and you can't see.
You can see car traffic; but, you can't see foot traffic and there are a lot of people that
walk along there. I am very concerned that with inexperienced drivers like our kids and
their friends that there is going to be an accident there; because, you can't see. So, that
hedge really does need to get moved back. I also think that widening the driveway would
have a helpful affect on the visibility.
JOANN SPORLEDER: What is the possibility of just cutting the bushes down to the
ground and letting them come up again and keeping them trimmed really short.
NANCY ICKLER: We could do that; but, that particular bush is not supposed to be
manicured like that. It is supposed to be big and kind of fuffly like bridalwreaths.
KAREN HAMMON-NASH: This particular landscaper is very good at moving bushes
and keeping them alive. I would expect that if they took Mrs. Ickler's money to move the
bushes to a new location; she would have bushes next year.
NANCY ICKLER: Hopefully, yes. For awhile our yard was looking like these bushes
were just people running around in camouflage; he moved them all over the place when
he was doing that. He did a project in our yard for the paper and put things all around
and he did a great job. He is very talented. But, he is not sure he cankeep them alive, he
thinks he can. He said it's kind of an older look in a plant, which is nice; because, it's
historic and it is beautiful when it is treated properly. It's just a beautiful plant. It's just
right now that I think if we don't do something soon it's on it's last leg
