DIANE WROBEL-ILLES: It is a large abstract that shows eighty acres of
cemetery/burial grounds. It is dated in a tiny map on the bottom. It is extensive reading,
and I have not read all of it, but, there are some things that I did note and my friend is
being so good as to copy it and give it to us tomorrow.
JOHN OXIAN: What I want to do is put that into the District Committee, since most of
the work has been done. The only thing I think: you should do now is do a district
with an historical aspect of who were property owners of this area, We have made
landmarks that didn't rate, because, certain people lived there. That could also be a part
of the reason to set up a historic district or to even make landmarks. I thunk- we should, if
need be, it could be like a multiple resource district, which we could do. There are many
ditlerent ways of doing a district. I think since a lot of the work has been done, now is
the time for you, Martha, to go ahead and try and do this. Let's see how close these
properties are, and if they are all connected then we can just go with a regular historic
district or otherwise if the houses are spread out too much then we will have to go with a
multiple resource district.
Aller John had finished his comments, there was further discussion between commission
members on the matter of the proposed German Township Historic District.
JOHN OXIAN: Let me give you the committee assignments. On the Budget and
Finance Committee I am still keeping Mary Jane Chase as Treasurer and Chairman, and
Gerald Ujdak, and I, John Oxian, are still on that committee also. On the Executive
Committee we already know who is on that committee. On the Historic District
Committee, Martha Choitz is Chairman, and Catherine Hosteler is Vice -Chairman, and
Mary Jane Chase and Diane Wrobel-Illes are also on this committee. If you do not want
to be on the committee please tell me. We already know who is on Landmarks
Committee, the two of us. Gerald Ujdak and I, John Ox ian, are on the Legal Committee.
61 Southhold Awards Committee, Martha is Chairman, Mary Jane Chase, Catherine
Hosteler, Virginia O'Hair are also on this committee. (I am changing the position of
Chairman from Martha Choitz to Virginia O'Hare. On Standard and Maintenance
Committee Catherine Hosteler is Chairman, Martha Choitz, Joann Sporleder, and Gerald
Ujdak are on that committee.
JOHN OXIAN: Is there anything under new business?
KAREN HAMMOND NASH: I simply gave each commissioner a copy of the proposed
restoration plan for the Oliver Street Pumping Station. It's not a landmark, it's not a
district, but, they sought our input and as you can see the principal change they want to
make is to drop the window sills below the present stone sills.
JOHN OXIAN: I also found a picture which shows -,%fiat the building originally looked
like when it was first built.
KAREN HAMMOND NASH: Fort Wayne is going to be hosting a two-day symposium
on George Kessler design historic landscapes. Aller Kessler worked for South Bend, he
