MARTHA CHOITZ: It used to be all in ivy.
WAYNE DOOLITTLE: It used to be a very pretty garden.
GERALD UJDAK: Now, it is full ofpoison ivy.
WAYNE DOOLITTLE: They have a very large poison ivy or something growing up the
tv tower. You first have to get to it,, you first have to get rid of all the debris or
overgrowth that is there to get into it, to see what its going to look like for repair. The
roof is overgrown, and the whole place is overgrown, except for the alley.
JOHN OXIAN: I second the motion. [Joann's Motion.
GERALD UJDAK: Any questions or comments? All those in favor of the motion say
aye. All those against say nay. Ok, it gets tabled.
GERALD UJDAK: Ok, item number four. 2002-0709; 1067 Riverside Drive; back yard
fence.
KAREN HAMMOND NASH: The homeowner here seeks to make a four -foot chain
link fence two -feet taller, and make it a six-foot chain link fence. Staff has no particular
problem with that; we recommend approval of that. He also seeks to put vinyl slats
diagonally through the chain link fence to block the view of the alley from the house.
The staff does have a problem with that because; of the experience with the vinyl slats in
the fence tend to weather, to break, and to appear dirty. Staff, however, would be willing
to recommend approval of placing wooden slates on a diagonal to the chain link; if that
might be done—staff wouldn't recommend approval of those either, they also tend to
look dirty, weathered, and to rot.
If the first part of the application is granted, the homeowner in thatcase would wish to
take down the six foot wooden privacy fence. Staff would always, as a matter of policy,
reconunend approval of the removal of the six foot fence. An alternative proposal that
staff would also be willing to approve, if it met the Homeowner purposes, would be to
extend a post to the chain link fence up six feet and then run wooden fence between them
rather than the chain lint:, if that would alter the viewing purposes.
JOHN OXIAN: I will make a motion that your suggestion on the type of fence, with the
black color, of the larger squares, with the inserts being straight up and down; and that
they be of a metallic nature to match the color of the fence as close as possible. The
removal of the wood fence and removal of the old four foot chain link fence.
JOANN SPORLEDER: I second the motion.
GERALD UJDAK: Any further discussion'? All those in favor say aye. All those
against say nay. Motion carries unanimously.
11
