custom made. Staff therefore recommends approving the replacement of all the windows
in the house; providing the following conditions are met:
1. That the sizes and shapes of the original window openings be preserved, and the
windows sized to fit the entire opening_
2. That all the windows on the front portion of the house, or visible from Lincolnway
East, should be one -pane over one -pane, or two -panes over two -panes.
3. All the portions of the window sashes or frames be visible from the exterior,
including any storm or screen windows, be colored as described in the
manufacturing brochure submitted with this application.
4. There should be an exterior trim fame of the same breadth as the existing windows;
Which, I estimate, to be between four and five inches, around the sides and top of
each window. If this cannot be done by exposing the original frame, then it should
be done by installation of new exterior trim, stained or painted in a color of the
owner's choice.
Staff is aware that vinyl replacement windows are not routinely approved. However, in
this case, several of the existing windows are already vinyl, and those that are wood are
covered with mill -finished aluminum storm windows.
JOHN OXIAN: So which one of these are you helping him to decide to have?
[Examining manufacturer's samples provided.]
KAREN HAMMOND NASH: I believe that his proposal was plain white. Not the wood
grain; but, just a plain flat white.
JOHN OXIAN: Is he going to use white vinyl siding?
KAREN HAMMOND NASH: I have not spoken with him about color, I do not Know.
JOHN OXIAN: What color is he picking for his siding? I think we should have
something to do with the color of his siding; and I think: we should have something to do
with the color of his windows. I mean, you can come up with some ridiculous looking
colors on siding, and you could come up with some ridiculous window colors; white like
that.
WAYNE DOOLITTLE: There is vinyl siding, they put a chimney on the exterior of the
house and boxed it in the front with vinyl siding, you can see it in the bottom of the
pictures.
The color of the vinyl siding is white.
MARTHA CHOITZ: If the vinyl windows are going to be white, than would suggest we
urge him to get a soft color of some sort for the rest of the house, because matching white
is not going to work.
GERALD UJDAK: Let's leave that up to the staff to svork out.
t
