Nominations are accepted in 3 categories which are defined as follows. <br />a. Preservation - The building or the site has been maintained in a <br />manner to protect its historical and architectural integrity. Little <br />"restoration" work would be necessary if the building changed hands. <br />Example: Oliver Inn, 630 W. Washington. <br />b. Restoration - the building or site has undergone major work to bring <br />it back to its architectural integrity. Example: the Chapin House, 601 <br />Park Avenue. <br />c. Adaptive Re -Use - the use of the building has been changed without <br />compromising the architectural or historical integrity. Usually the <br />buildings in this category have been endangered and the new use has <br />saved them. Example: Tippecanoe Place, 620 W. Washington. <br />2. Buildings should be at least 50 years old. <br />3. Buildings throughout St. Joseph County, Indiana are eligible. <br />4. Because the awards are given to people and organizations, the current <br />owner of the buildings should have been the person responsible for the work. <br />5. Buildings that have been sandblasted or cleaned using other abrasive <br />methods will not be considered. <br />6. The decision of -the Awards Committee will be submitted -to the Historic <br />Preservation Commission. The Commission decision is final. <br />
