National Register Nominations
1. 501 W. Colfax — Remedy Bldg., amendment
TODD ZEIGER: I am Todd Zeiger, Director of Historic Landmarks Foundation of
Indiana. This is a hearing for the South Bend Remedy Building, which is currently on the
corner of Colfax and William. Our proposal is to move it onto West Washington Street
with in the boundaries of the National Register District. We are here in front of you
today to seek your approval to continue its status as a contributing building with in the
national register district. We have been awarded grant funds from the State Historic
Preservation Office for exterior work and as such the building needs to be a contributing
structure with in a national register district or be listed on the national register
individually in order to use the funds. The site plan before you shows the proposed new
location for the building on the corner of West Washington and Franklin. The new
location will allow the building to be situated so that the turret will be to the corner.
There is actually two buildable lots between the Franklin Street and the alley, we are
going to utilize one lot for parking as a temporary measure until a future time when a
house can be relocated to fill in the gap. The question before you tonight is does this
concept for the relocation of the building maintain its contributing status to the national
register district.
MARY JANE CHASE: I move to send a favorable recommendation to the County
Commissioners and the State Historic Preservation office.
RICHARD MORRISON: I second the motion.
After due consideration, the following action was taken:
Upon a motion by Mary Jane Chase, being seconded by Richard Morrison, and
carried unanimously, a favorable recommendation for the relocation of the Remedy
Building, 501 W. Colfax, be sent to the County Commissioners and State Historic
Preservation Office.
II. REGULAR BUSINESS
A. Approval of Minutes (NONE)
B.
