1) Its character, interest, or value as part of the development, heritage, or culture of <br />the City of South Bend, St. Joseph County, the State of Indiana, or the United <br />States of America; <br />2) Its embodiment of elements or architectural design, detail, material or <br />craftsmanship which represents an architectural characteristic or innovation; <br />3) Its identification with the life of a person or persons of historical significance. <br />The site and structure fulfill criteria #1 as an example of how South Bend expanded over <br />the years and the effect the end of World War II had on housing, schools and the growth <br />of new neighborhoods. <br />The site and structure fulfill criteria #2 as an example of the meshing of various <br />architectural designs from various time eras. The original portion of the school is in the <br />Mission style while latter additions exude the Art Deco style. This structure is rated a <br />C/10 in the Indiana Historic Sites and Structures Inventory, however, this rating is low <br />and can be re -rated to an S/11. <br />The site and structure fulfill criteria #3 with its association with architects, Freyermuth, <br />Maurer and Toth. <br />5 <br />
