Historic Preservation Commission
227West Jefferson Blvd.
South Bend, Indiana 46601-1830
Att'n.Rhonda Saunders
Dear Ms. Saunders:
I am replying to your letter of August 14.2000 regarding the deterioration of the
property owned by Vera C. Yeager.
On May 5,2000 Vera Yeager received a letter from Stanley J. Molenda of the
department of code enforcement.tt cited the need for repairs at 127 Franklin
Place and in response to this Mr. Frank Pocza ( Property Manager) contacted
that office. He is working closely with the inspector (Mark Jones) and has
outlined his plans to bring the buildings up to their code. It is my understanding
that they reached agreement on Frank's plan of acton.
On Aug.18 Frank Pocza called me because some of.the structural repairs were
not approved by the Historical Commission but were o.k.by the standards of the
department of code enforcement.
Income from these properties is marginal. It was $3180 in 1899.
My mother,Mrs. Yeager, lives in an assisted living facility in Florida at an
average cost of $2300 per month. She will be 101 on Sept.23rd and needs all
her income for living expenses.
If Historical Commission standards must be followed, she will be forced to sell.
She signed the consent form on May 7,1998 based on our advice to do so. Our
advice was based on Mr. John Oxian's letter of March 25,1998 which stated in
tthe last paragraph that if they did not receive a reply in 45 days the properties
would be automatically designated as a local historic landmark.
I have gone over this dilemma
with my husband(Joe Proctor) and would appreciate your discussion with him
on the telephone. He will try to contact you.
Sincerely
Marilynn Proctor ,
Telephone-513-748-2104
e-mail-soeo lorgwebtv.net
14a rU 51 Z11 2—c>0cl
f f j` tstQricPcesecvat4
t ~cc
fG
et_S /11 °w
7°kx' S
