93 Commission had regarding their desires to not set a precedent by approving the glass <br />94 block in this application. <br />95 <br />96 Mr. Kil interjected that the glass blocks would be installed in two small windows on the <br />97 south facade, first floor. He further noted that glass block would allow them to retain <br />98 their fire rating as well as allow light in and provide the required privacy for the residents <br />99 and the neighboring house which is located only three feet away from this elevation. <br />100 Mrs. Sporleder stated that the Commission would allow the glass block for security, <br />101 lighting, privacy and fire code reasons. Mrs. Sporleder moved to approve the application <br />102 as submitted with the acceptation being made that the glass block be allowed in the <br />103 inoperable south elevation first floor windows for reasons of security, fire code safety and <br />104 lighting and that this not set a precedent for future application concerning glass block. <br />105 Mrs. Hostetler seconded the motion. The motion passed unanimously. <br />106 <br />107 3.2000 — 0323, 830 N. Michigan, landscaping. <br />108 Mr. Oxian waved the reading of the history of the structure. Mrs. Saunders presented the <br />109 staff report and circulated photographs and maps. Mr. Oxian recommended that as a part <br />110 of the motion the Commission stipulate that trees be planted to replace those that were <br />111 lost during the renovation of the building. Mrs. DeRose stated that the Commission <br />112 should make a conditioned approval of the Certificate of Appropriateness with the <br />113 condition being the restoration of the lost trees. Mrs. Choitz moved to approve the <br />114 application as recommended by staff including the rehabilitation of sidewalk, removal of <br />115 curb cut and approach and sodding in of approach with the condition that appropriate <br />116 trees be planted through out the park to replace those lost during the restoration of the <br />117 pumping station. Mr. Ujdak seconded the motion. The motion passed with Mr. Oxian <br />118 abstaining because of his position on the Water Works Board. <br />119 <br />120 B. Proposed Local Landmarks, 2nd Reading. <br />121 1. 802 N. Lafayette — YWCA <br />122 Mr. Oxian noted that he had spoken with Mrs. King from the YWCA at which time she <br />123 was told to appear at tonight's meeting to state her opinion on the proposed landmarking <br />124 of the YWCA. He further noted that she has chosen not to appear, thus, leaving the <br />125 decision up to the Commission as to whether the building should be sent to the Council or <br />126 not. Mrs. Choitz moved to send proposed local landmark, 802 N. Lafayette to the <br />127 Common Council with a favorable recommendation. Mrs. Sporleder seconded the <br />128 motion. The motion passed unanimously. <br />129 <br />130 2.2300 Portage Avenue — Riverview Cemetery <br />131 Mr. Oxian stated that proposed local landmark 2300 Portage should be tabled until May <br />132 to allow time for discussion between the owners and the Historic Preservation <br />133 Commission. Mrs. Choitz moved to table proposed local landmark, 2300 Portage <br />134 Avenue, until May 15, 2000. Mrs. Sporleder seconded the motion.
