Mr. Oxian stated that the proposed 12 foot tall, fluted cast iron poles are
to be used and globe lights be installed on top along with 150 watt, sodium vapor light
bulbs. Mr. Herceg stated that he would like to apologize to Mr. Talley and the
Commission for his remarks at last months meeting. He further stated that he appreciated
the Commissions participation in the lighting demonstration and apologized for not being
able to attend. Mr. Rozanski reported that Ken Herceg & Associates ran a photo metrics
test for 150 watt sodium vapor bulbs in both the globe and acorn fixtures. The test
concluded that a 150 watt bulb in the acorn fixture would give, on average, a one foot
candle compared to a 150 watt bulb in the globe fixture which gave, on average, a .70
candle. He further noted that industry standards recommends a one foot candle with no
less then a half foot candle for foot paths and if the globe is used, areas of the courtyard
would be just under this standard. Mr. Rozanski stated that using the acorn at 250 watt is
too bright and not recommended; however, using 250 watt with the globe would raise the
numbers to the recommended averages, but, will cause an increase in the size of the globe
to 22 inches, making it too large.
