139 CHERYL GREENE: The Commission can alter the application or table the issue
140 until a revised application has been submitted.
141
142 JOANN SPORLEDER: I believe that the Commission acted on a previous
143 application concerning signage for this building thus effectively closing the issue. I do
144 not believe that the Commission should be entertaining another application on the same
145 topic.
146
147 CHERYL GREENE: The minutes from the May 15 meeting show that the owner
148 requested that the matter be tabled until June.
149
150 JOHN OXIAN: I am closing the public portion of the meeting.
151
152 CATHERINE HOSTETLER: The Tower Building has always been a bank
153 building and can only house banks by design. If the Bank wants to install a sign on a
154 portion of the building that is removable and in now way intrude on the building. I do
155 not have a problem with that.
156
157 ED TALLEY: The staff is recommending the roof -mounted unit as a good
158 compromise. We have also suggested to the applicant that the surrender their rights to
159 the sign on the west elevation for the east fagade sign. The staff felt that dropping the
160 west side sign for a roof top east side sign was a good compromise for all parties
161 involved and would be less destructive to the building.
162
163 CATHERINE HOSTETLER: I move to approve the application for the roof top
164 Old Kent sign as recommended by staff with the withdrawal of the previously approved
165 west fagade 12th story Old Kent sign.
166
167 JERRY WEINER: I second the motion.
168
169 After due consideration, the following action was taken:
170
171 Upon a motion by Catherine Hostetler, being seconded by Jerry Weiner and
172 carried with Joann Sporleder voting against, the proposed Certificate of Appropriateness
173 for installation of a east fagade, roof top Old Kent sign at 218 W. Washington, South
174 Bend, Indiana, be approved as recommended by staff with the withdrawal of a previously
175 approved 12th story west elevation Old Kent Sign.
176
177
178
179 C. 2000-0425,1636 Lincolnway West, door.
180
181 J. EDWARD TALLEY: Greg Kil, who you will remember from the 1601 Kemble
182 Avenue project, is here tonight to represent Ethel Anderson, owner of 1636 Lincolnway
183 West. As the Commission will remember this is an application for a door on the west
184 fagade. Staff has had some discussion with Ms. Anderson and Mr. Kil concerning this
4
