RECOMMENDATION
The owners are proposing to make various alterations to the property at 1608 Devon
Circle, thus, the staff finds it easier to make recommendations one issue at a time.
1. The owner proposes to replace existing double hung window located on the west elevation,
see photos one and two lower right window, with a Pella aluminum clad window with custom
muttin pattern of two wide and four high. The proposed replacement window will not alter the
existing window opening, however, it will not be identical to the original muttin pattern of six
over six. The staff finds the proposed replacement window to be acceptable as a very close
alternative to the existing window which is not easily visible from the street. The staff
recommends approval of the replacement of the first story west elevation kitchen window as
seen in photos one and two.
2. The owner proposes to install a 3/14" x12" range hood vent to the west elevation, 3' to 4' left
of kitchen window. The staff finds the proposed vent to be acceptable since it will be painted to
match the existing siding and will not be very visible from the street. The staff recommends
approval of the proposed range hood vent.
3. The owner proposes to replace five double window units with Pella aluminum clad insulated
glass windows each with custom muttin patterns. Four of the windows are currently leaded
glass formed into a diamond pattern, which the owner is proposing to replace with the above
mentioned Pella windows. Each would contain custom wood muttins designed to match the
existing diamond patterns. They are also proposing to replace a set of windows located in the
peak of the east elevation which currently has a non -original wood muttin diamond pattern.
The staff recommends approval of the replacement of the non -original window located in the
upper gable, east elevation, (see picture five). However, the staff has some trepidations about
the proposed replacement for the four leaded glass windows. One set is a prominent feature of
the front facade of the house and is very visible from the street. The owner is proposing to
make the wood muttins as thin as possible to get as close as possible to the existing pattern as
well as to paint the wood to resemble the lead. The staff has doubts about the appearance of
the proposed wood muttins and wishes to not make a recommendation until after the
Commission discusses this issue.
4. The owner is proposing to replace an existing double hung window, as seen in picture
number six on the second level, with a Pella casement window with matching muttin pattern.
The staff recommends approval of the replacement of the existing double hung with the
proposed Pella aluminum casement window with matching muttin pattern.
3
