MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING
of the
HISTORIC PRESERVATION COMMISSION
Monthly Meeting
7:30 p.m.
Monday, August 30, 1999
Corrected
10/4/99
County Commissioner's
Conference Room
7th Floor County -City Building
I. Call to Order
John Oxian, president of the commission, brought the meeting to order at 7:30 p.m.
II. Roll Call
Commission members present were: John Oxian, Catherine Hostetler, Ron Zmylso, Adrian
Fine, Kari Gallagher and Richard Helmus.
Commission staff present was: Ed Talley, Director, Rhonda Saunders, Assistant Director and
Aladean DeRose, consul.
Also attending the meeting were: Sue Spink, Greg Trytko, Jennifer Moorehead, David Tribble
and David Hoath.
III. Public Hearing
A. Certificate of Appropriateness Applications
1. 1999-0518 - 803 Notre Dame Ave., fountain rehabilitation
Mr. Talley presented the staff report and circulated photographs. He also noted that the project
leader, Ms. Moorehead, was present. Ms. Moorehead stated that during the initial investigation
of the project it was discovered that the fountain and park were actually located on a different
piece of property than the firehouse. The firehouse is located in the Sorin Addition and the park
is located in the Hudson Addition, which has caused the city to require the Northeast
Neighborhood Center to obtain a separate lease for the park. Ms. Moorehead also noted that
because of city concerns the council has decided to rehabilitate the fountain, without making it
operational. She further noted that the Northeast Center wants only to rehabilitate the fountain
and add the benches to the park at this particular time and will possibly add the proposed
foliage at a later date. Mr. Oxian asked if the proposed fence would be erected now. Ms.
Moorehead stated that the fence would not be put up now, the only thing being proposed for
immediate work is the fountain and the benches. Mrs. DeRose asked who the actual owner of
the property is. Ms. Moorehead stated that the City holds the title to the land. Mrs. DeRose
asked if the City had approved the proposed work. Ms. Moorehead stated that Pam Meyer was
okay with proposed project, however, she has referred the project to their legal department.
Mrs. DeRose stated that the Commission could not vote on the application without written
approval from the owner.
