STAFF REPORT <br />CONCERNING APPLICATION FOR A <br />CERTIFICATE OF APPROPRIATENESS <br />Application Number: <br />Property Location: <br />1999-0915 <br />1721 EAST WAYNE <br />Property Owner: WILLIAM & CAROL ALBRIGHT <br />Landmark or District Designation: EW-LHD <br />Rating: C/9 Key Number: 18-6106-3780 <br />Survey Number: 141-57231-597 <br />STATEMENT OF SIGNIFICANCE/HISTORIC CONTEXT <br />Prominent developers, Whitcomb and Keller, built this H.R. Stapp designed, Period <br />Revival style house, in 1927 for Frank and Genevieve "Jane" Stevens. Mr. Stevens was the <br />director of George Wyman and Company and Mrs. Stevens was employed as a clerk. They <br />resided at this address until Mr. Stevens death in 1941. Mrs. Stevens remarried that same year <br />to Jerry Shea and sold the house to Conrad and Lillian Adams. Mr. Adams owned and operated <br />Adams Engineering Die & Tool, located at 1702 W. Washington. Mr. & Mrs. Adams lived <br />here until 1952 when the house was sold to James Barker, the vice president and manager of <br />Drewry's LTD. Mr. Barker and his wife, Kathleen, resided in this house until 1973 when they <br />sold it to Laurence Sullivan, who turned around and sold the house two months later to the <br />current owners, William and Carol Albright. <br />
