PROPOSED CHANGE(S)
The Applicant wishes to erect a sign to distinguish the cemetery from Chapel Hill
Cemetery and to display the Cemeteries historic designation.
REFERENCE TO GOVERNING STANDARDS:
Restoration: Rehabilitation:
The Preservation Guidelines for East Wavne street Local Historic District:
b)... The Guidelines for Local Landmarks follow the Rehabilitation Model...
Building Site and Landscaping
Recommended
New site work should be based upon actual knowledge of the past appearance of the property
found in photographs, drawings and newspapers.
RECOMMENDATION
The owner is proposing to install a marker sign for Pleasant Valley Cemetery to
differentiate, it from Chapel Hill Cemetery. The sign will be 24" by 18" and made of fabricated,
sandblasted foam, stand four feet in height and will be painted in any colors the Commission
chooses. The message on the sign will read; Pleasant Valley Cemetery, Est. August 20, 1831,
Local Historic Landmark. The Staff finds the sign to be compatible with landmark guidelines
as well as essential in differentiating the two cemeteries, thus, recommends approval.
2
