RECOMMENDATION
The owners are proposing to construct an 8'8" concrete block basement under a rear
single story addition using 10"x20" concrete footings with 2 1/2" re -rods, 16"x 8"x 8" concrete
blocks 13 rows high, three pilasters to grade, 4" concrete floor, and three 8"x 2'x 2' column
footings. The applicant also intends to install five egress windows, three located on the
southern exposure and two on the western exposure. The windows to be located on the south
side will have one center fixed window and two outer casement style windows, each will be 24"
wide and V' tall. The windows on the west side of the addition will both be casement, each
being 28"x 36". All windows will be Marvin, white aluminum clad, with 6"x 6" treated,
window wells all at grade level. The applicant is proposing to construct a basement that will
not be visible from the street. The proposed material will match the existing basement walls
and the intended windows will match the existing windows on the house. The installation of
the windows will require the removal to two Burning Bushes located on the south side of the
addition, however, none of the landscaping is visible from the street, nor, is it a part of the
historical fabric of the house. The staff finds that the proposed project will not negatively
affect the historic fabric of the house or property and will not be visible from the street, thus,
the staff recommends approval.
